Should you or your employees travel abroad in the course of work then it is highly recommended that you consider a travel insurance for business policy.
We are sometimes asked
The answer is that the majority of holiday travel insurance policies will not cover business trips on existing personal policies. This is not widely known, so it is perhaps not surprising to learn it is estimated that up to a million business trips are made from the UK each year that involve inadequate insurance.
Generally travel insurance for business policies will provide specific cover for replacement or hire of business equipment that is lost or damaged. The most common example of this is a stolen mobile phone or laptop computer.
Employee Replacement is another area of cover that can be added to a business travel insurance policy. This provides cover for the costs of having to send another employee to perform a duty if the original traveller is not able to. eg. An engineer travels abroad to fix some machinery but becomes ill – the costs of sending out another engineer will be covered.
The following types of travel insurance for business policies should be considered:
For individual employees undertaking a one off business trip.
Long Stay Business Travel Insurance
For individual employees undertaking a business trip with a stay of over one month.
Annual Business Travel Insurance
For individual employees who will undertake three of more trips abroad in twelve month period.
Group Business Travel Insurance
For a group of employees undertaking a one off business trip.
Company Annual Business Travel Policy
For employees that travel abroad regularly, it is possible to arrange insurance in a single policy that will cover these employees for a designated number of trips per year. This can often be a way to save money as well as reducing hassle and administration.
Business travel policies can also be amended to cover the family of the employee as well. If an employee plans to extend the business trip to include some holiday travel you may find that some allowance for leisure travel is included as standard. If not this can be added often at little or no extra cost.
